A funeral service, celebrating the life of Basil V. Patterson, 92, of Newark, will be held Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel of The Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service, Kirkersville, with full military honors to follow at Kirkersville Cemetery.Basil died late Sunday, April 1, 2012 at his home following an extended illness. He was born 8-4-1919 in Clintonville, W.V., the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Josephine Margaret(Hamilton) Patterson.He served honorably in the US Army during WWII, and received the purple heart for his service in the battle of the bulge. He retired in 1979 after 31 years at D.C.S.C. in Columbus, as general foreman of the buildings and grounds. He attended the Newark Freewill Baptist Church for many years, sang and played gospel and bluegrass music at area nursing homes, and enjoyed restoring antique cars. He was a founding member of the Newark Vibrators Model-A club.He is survived by his loving family: his wife Anne (Watson) whom he married on June 11, 1949, his children: Michael (Lisa) Patterson of Newark, Shari (Tim) Eveland of Heath and Lisa (Michael ) Webb of Pickerington; his grandchildren Julie (DJ) Bowles, Carrie Steele, Lacie (Brian) Murdock, Corey Patterson, Lindsey Laughlin, Aimee (Ben) Heiser, Jason (Katie) Lewis , Ronnie Lewis and Michael Brandon; his 16 great-grandchildren; sisters Florence Blankenship, Lea Frye, Jean (Charles) Burgess, and Edna Sickles; several nieces and nephews, including special niece Rachel Schnieder.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by many sisters and brothers and an infant son Tony Mitchell Patterson.His family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home, 285 E Main St in Kirkersville, where an on-line guest register and video tribute are available at www.hoskinsonfuneral.com.HOSKINSON Funeral & Cremation Service, Kirkersville, is honored to care for the Patterson family.
