Barbara L. Lescody, of Heath, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on January 14, 1936, in Pennsylvania, Barbara lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to her family, friends, and community.
Barbara is lovingly remembered by her children, Vicky (Dean) Tutwiler, Kathy (Steve) Harper, and Chris (Nickie) Lescody; cherished grandchildren Jenny, Amber (Casey), Mandy, Michelle (Luke), Aurora, and Teagan; and treasured great-grandchildren Dylan, Emma, Deanna, Angie, Eli, Harper, Birdie, Tristan, and Sienna. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Loar; brother, Kenny (Carol) Gregg; sister-in-law, Margie Wheeler; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 69 years, Richard J. "Piney" Lescody; father, Clarance Gregg; mother, Frances Stephenson; sister, Carolyn Gregg; and brothers-in-law, Earl Loar and William Wheeler.
Barbara proudly served as an Administrative Assistant with Newark City Schools for many years. Her dedication and organizational skills made her a beloved colleague and a respected member of the educational community.
A devoted member of Central Christian Church, Barbara served faithfully as a Deacon, demonstrating her commitment to her faith and community. She was passionate about crafting, sewing, refinishing furniture, gardening, baking, and cooking. Barbara found joy in square dancing, listening to music, Sudoku and was an enthusiastic homemaker. She participated in many card clubs, enjoyed camping in their motorhome, spent time at their condo in Florida, loved boating on Buckeye Lake, and cherished attending her grandchildren's sporting events. Barbara's warmth and generosity created a loving environment where family gatherings were cherished moments. Her and Piney's love which began in high school, was a source of joy and inspiration to all who knew them.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home in Newark on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Chad Penhorwood officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation two hours prior to the service, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., to share memories and condolences.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
