Avery "Joe" Martin

Avery Joe Martin, 93, of Hebron, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 28, 2016 with his family at his side. He was born in Hebron on May 2, 1923 the son of the late Avery Joe and Helen Grace (Woodruff) Martin. Joe was a graduate of Kirkersville H.S., class of 1942, completed one year of college at The Ohio State University; served honorably in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, and was a lifelong farmer, who worked with his brother Marion at Flo-Lizer in Hebron. He also owned and operated Martin Agri Services. He was a charter member of Licking Co Agrology and Agrarian club, a member of the former Kirkersville Baptist Church and trustee of the Kirkersville Cemetery Association for many years. He is survived by his loving family: including his wife Irene, whom he married on April 9, 1944; children Larry (Susan) Martin, Connie (Paul) Casto, Anita (Rob) Timmons; grandchildren Nathan Martin, Eric Martin, Holly (Ryan) Holton, Lora (Bob) Schoonover, Travis (Stacy) Timmons, Trent (Erica) Timmons; 11 great grandchildren, one great great grandson; sisters Maxine Ford and Lorraine (Wayne) Pollard; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Marion W. Martin, brother-in-law Charles Moorhead, sons-in-law George Oldfield and Ken Gornall. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 31, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Monday from 10-11:00 a.m. at the Kirkersville Home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, 285 E Main St. in Kirkersville. Funeral services celebrating his life will follow on Monday, August 1, 2016 at 11:00. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Kirkersville Cemetery.
