Albert William Thompson, age 74 of Newark, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born October 15, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Albert Raymond and Jean E. (Olpp) Thompson.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Albert honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. His bravery and dedication were recognized with numerous medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Albert embarked on a lifelong career as an insulator and asbestos worker. As a committed member of Local 44, he rose to become a respected foreman, leading many projects with skill and integrity.
A man of varied interests, Albert had a passion for painting and building model cars and boats, often dedicating his free time to these creative pursuits. His love of spending time out on the water was steadfast, and he found joy in sailing and generously shared this love by teaching others to sail.
A devoted fan of the OSU Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns, Albert was also an avid NASCAR enthusiast and found joy in playing the guitar, adding music to the lives of those around him.
His loss is felt deeply by family, friends, and all who had the fortune to know him. Albert's legacy of service, craftsmanship, passion, and love will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laura M. (Games) Thompson, whom he married November 27, 1991; two sons, Bobby Thompson of Baltimore and Samuel Thompson of Ocala, Florida; step-children, Ryan Tracy and Heather Baker, both of Thornville; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda and Karen; and several nieces and nephews.
