Alan Earl Kissell, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly, after being hit on his tractor, on Wednesday, April 15th, 2026. Born in Columbus, Ohio, on August 27th, 1948, the life-long farmer left this world at the age of 77, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and joy that will be cherished for generations.
A devoted farmer by trade and by heart, Alan spent his days in the fields of Ohio, cultivating not only the land but also a rich and meaningful life. He found joy in driving his International and Farmall Tractors, milking cows, baling hay, hauling grain, and raising livestock. His passion for farming was matched only by his love for family and community.
Alan's life will be celebrated during a heartfelt service at Grace Lutheran Church, 65 E. Columbus Street in Thornville, Ohio, on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026, at 11:00 am. with Pastor Tom Jacobson officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Ridge Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to join for visitation at the church on Tuesday, April 21st, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and again on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, prior to the service.
Alan was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Nancy Louise (Binckley) Kissell; his father, Maurice Earl Kissell; and his mother, Irene Elizabeth (Grumlich) Kissell. He is survived by his cherished children, Alicia L. (Ryan) Miller, Earl L. (Maggie) Kissell, and Anton A. (Ashley) Kissell; his adored grandchildren, Lucas Kissell, Aiden Kissell, Kourtney Kissell, Colin Miller, Jack Kissell, Lauren Miller, and Katherine Kissell; and his loving brothers, Ronald E. (Joyce) Kissell, AK (Helga) Kissell, and Rodney M. (Pamela) Kissell. Alan also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Alan enjoyed farming with his multi-generational family during his entire life, along with working at Lowes for the past 10 years, along with farming, and was a dedicated member of Grace Lutheran Church, Thornville, and participated actively in the community throughout his life. Alan was also a member of the Licking County Farm Bureau. From his early days as a member of the Licking County 4-H, he proudly showed dairy cows and hogs and belonged to the 4-H tractor club. Alan proudly attended the State 4-H congress, and he also won the Licking County 4-H tractor driving competition, which qualified him for the state competition. He enjoyed operating his tractors, driving his Volkswagens and reading tractor magazines, Alan’s vibrant spirit touched all who knew him.
His love for ice cream and potato chips was matched only by his devotion to spending time with his family, sharing countless cherished moments with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His warm and sociable nature, along with never meeting a stranger, endeared him to many and will be fondly remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Grace Lutheran Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
The Thornville Chapel of Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Alan and his family during this difficult time. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all who were blessed to know him.
