Life Legacy


A celebration of the life of Michael Joseph Burke, 77, of Harbor Hills, will be held at the Dawes Arboretum, 7770 Jacksontown Rd SE, Newark, on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 pm.
Mike was born in Biddeford, Maine to Joseph and Frances Burke of Kennebunk, Maine. He passed away suddenly at Licking Memorial Hospital on February 19, 2010.
Mike was a graduate of Kennebunk High School and Maine Maritime Academy as a Marine Engineer. He was enlisted in the Merchant Marines and the US Navy, retiring a Lieutenant Commander. He worked for The Foxboro Instrument Company in Massachusetts and joined Owens Corning Fiberglas in 1965 as a Control Systems Engineer. He retired from Owens in 1997.
He is predeceased by his father Joseph, his mother Frances, his son Kerry, his brother James and his former wife Imogene Cook Burke.
He was a loving husband, father, Papa and friend. He will be greatly missed by his wife Pamela Wallace Burke, his son Scott Burke (Debbie Lessner), sons Josh (Diana) Hardbarger, Tad (Suzanne) Hardbarger, and Jake Hardbarger, his daughters Claudia (David) Powell, Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Moore-Molander. Grandchildren Cora and Panne Burke (Kerry), David and Elizabeth Powell, Heather and Kyle Molander, Nicholas and Lily Hardbarger,Heidi Holmes, Nathan Seals and Christopher VanOster.
Mike thoroughly enjoyed traveling worldwide both in the course of his careers and in retirement, summers on the coast of Maine, and winters on the beaches of Mexico, boating on Buckeye Lake and walking his beloved dog Dior. He enjoyed visiting Dawes Arboretum often. Mike served as a shining example of appreciating and loving every day of his life. His favorite words, “Life is good” will echo in the hearts of his wife, family and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name in lieu of flowers to Dawes Arboretum, where a Legacy Memorial Tree will be purchased in his honor.
