Life Legacy
Stanley Otto Ludtke passed away on January 31, 2010 at Ohio State University Hospital East in Columbus,Ohio. Stan was born on November 19, 1916 in Washington Township (Michigan) to Otto and Jeanette Ludtke. He graduated from Romeo High School in 1934. In 1942 he married Ruth Appel who preceded him in death in 1993.
Stan was active in civic and church activities throughout his life. He was a life-long member of Lutheran congregations in Michigan, Arizona, and Ohio. Stan was an employee of Ford Motor Company at the Michigan Proving Grounds in Romeo. After retirement, he settled in Arizona. He married Eleanor Hagness in 1997; she preceded him in death in 2006.
He is survived by his brother, Norman (Muriel) Ludtke of Washington, MI, his children, Jeanine Hanson of Wadsworth, IL, Douglas N. Ludtke of Frederick, MD, Mary Alice (Victor Dotson) Ludtke of Grawn, MI, and Carol (R. Scott) Ludtke Prigan of Columbus, OH. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Hanson-Kilbride of Takoma Park, MD, Jonathan Hanson of Santa Monica, CA and Rosa Prigan of Columbus, OH. Other survivors include a cousin, Fenton Ludtke of Savannah, GA., brothers-in law Paul Appel, Martin (Jean) Appel, Walter (Diane) Appel, his Goddaughter Diane (Rev. Thomas) Bernlohr, Godson James Appel, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Rev Leon Appel, his sisters-in-law, Suzanne Appel, Irene Appel,Norine Appel, Jeanette Appel, and his son-in-law Phillip Hanson,and his cousin Phyliss Ludtke Torbett.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (New York, www.mskcc.org) or to a charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 5, 2010, 3:00 pm, at Summit's Trace (formerly Lutheran Village) in Columbus, Ohio with interment in Romeo Cemetery, Romeo, Michigan at a later date.
